Since opening its doors in 1929, the Commodore Ballroom has been Vancouver’s premier site for concerts, cultural events and entertainment. From the gleaming brass chandeliers to the lavish carpeting and polished mahogany staircase, the Commodore continues to exude the dignified air of its Big Band days, yet remains hip enough to thrill modern music fans or concertgoers.

NIGHTCLUB OF THE YEAR NOMINATED COMMODORE BALLROOM GETS NEW CONSOLES AND LIGHTING

One of the best clubs in the world just got better. For decades, Vancouver’s Commodore Ballroom has been one of the premiere venues in North America, hosting some of the biggest and most exciting acts in the music industry. Nominated for Nightclub of the Year in the annual Pollstar Concert Industry Awards for the first time in 2005, the Commodore Ballroom is up against such venerable institutions as the Fillmore in San Francisco and Irving Plaza in New York.

In keeping with the Commodore Ballroom’s commitment to maintaining the high standards that have made it one of the most beloved venues for both audiences and touring acts, the club has undergone significant technical upgrades. Ensuring the very best quality of sound and lighting, management has recently purchased two new Midas consoles. An XL 250 48 channel console is now installed for stage monitoring with a Heritage 2000 56 channel at the Front Of House mix position. Widely regarded by audio professionals as makers of the best consoles on the market, Midas has been designing and manufacturing live performance mixing equipment for the world’s most demanding sound engineers, performers and production rental companies since the early 1970s. Raising the standards of sonic quality through continual research and development has always been, and remains, the company’s goal.

The Commodore Ballroom has also invested in new lighting fixtures. The 6 new Martin MAC 250 Entour moving lights will help the room be a leader with the latest in the rapidly changing world of moving light technology. The MAC 250 Entours, which features a specially designed dimming system, achieves new standards in light output and image quality, making it ideal for concert environments. Martin’s fastest-moving head yet, 12 rich colour shades and other features offer lighting professionals a wider range of graphical effects possibilities than ever.

As we head into a new millennium, the Commodore Ballroom is itself heading into a new era, sounding and looking better than ever.
